Weeds #10: Ribwort Plantain

In Irish folklore Ribwort plantain or slánlus – health herb – was believed to have great curative properties. Mainly used to to stop bleeding and heal wounds and was popularly believed it had been put on Christ’s wounds after his crucifixion. In Dublin the flower-heads were called blackheads and used in a children’s game called ‘soldiers’. On-going series of wildflowers in my garden. Ref: Wild Irish Plants by Niall Mac Coitir
